Short stories in three levels. Every Urdu line has a Roman Urdu line and an English line under it, so a parent who cannot read Urdu script can still read along. Each story prints on one page with five new words and two questions.

He went up to the roof with his dad.
ہوا تیز چل رہی تھی۔
Hawa tez chal rahi thi.
The wind was blowing hard.
پتنگ اونچی اڑنے لگی۔
Patang oonchi uṛne lagi.
The kite began to fly high.
احمد نے کہا: ابو، دیکھیں! میری پتنگ بادلوں تک پہنچ گئی۔
Ahmed ne kaha: Abbu, dekhein! Meri patang baadalon tak pohanch gayi.
Ahmed said: Dad, look! My kite has reached the clouds.

Aaj Eid hai.

Sab ne aik doosre ko Eid Mubarak kaha.
Everyone said Eid Mubarak to each other.
دادی نے فاطمہ کو عیدی دی۔
Daadi ne Fatima ko eidi di.
Grandma gave Fatima eidi money.
شام کو سب نے مل کر سویاں کھائیں۔
Shaam ko sab ne mil kar sewaiyaan khaayin.
In the evening everyone ate sewaiyan together.

Har taraf safaid barf thi.
There was white snow everywhere.
آج اسکول بند تھا۔
Aaj school band tha.
School was closed today.
زینب اور اس کے بھائی نے برف کا آدمی بنایا۔
Zainab aur us ke bhaai ne barf ka aadmi banaaya.
Zainab and her brother made a snowman.
پھر دونوں نے گرم چائے پی۔
Phir donon ne garam chaaye pi.
Then they both drank hot tea.

Garmi ka din tha. Aik kawwa bohat pyaasa tha.
It was a hot day. A crow was very thirsty.
اسے ایک گھڑا نظر آیا۔
Use aik ghaṛa nazar aaya.
He saw a clay pot.
گھڑے میں پانی بہت کم تھا۔
Ghaṛe mein paani bohat kam tha.
There was very little water in the pot.
کوے نے گھڑے میں ایک ایک کر کے کنکر ڈالے۔
Kawwe ne ghaṛe mein aik aik kar ke kankar daale.
The crow dropped pebbles into the pot one by one.
پانی اوپر آ گیا اور کوے نے پانی پی لیا۔
Paani oopar aa gaya aur kawwe ne paani pi liya.
The water came up and the crow drank it.

Itwaar ko hum park gaye.

Park mein bohat se bachche khel rahe the.
Many children were playing in the park.
میں نے جھولا جھولا۔
Main ne jhoola jhoola.
I went on the swing.
میری بہن نے بطخوں کو روٹی ڈالی۔
Meri behan ne batakhon ko roti daali.
My sister fed bread to the ducks.
گھر واپس آ کر ہم بہت تھک گئے تھے۔
Ghar waapas aa kar hum bohat thak gaye the.
When we got home we were very tired.

ایک دن جنگل میں ایک شیر سو رہا تھا۔ ایک چھوٹا سا چوہا اس کے اوپر دوڑنے لگا۔
Aik din jangal mein aik sher so raha tha. Aik chhota sa chooha us ke oopar dauṛne laga.
One day a lion was sleeping in the forest. A little mouse began running over him.
شیر جاگ گیا اور اس نے چوہے کو پکڑ لیا۔
Sher jaag gaya aur us ne choohe ko pakaṛ liya.
The lion woke up and caught the mouse.
چوہے نے کہا: مجھے چھوڑ دیں، میں کبھی آپ کی مدد کروں گا۔ شیر ہنسا اور اسے چھوڑ دیا۔
Choohe ne kaha: Mujhe chhoṛ dein, main kabhi aap ki madad karoon ga. Sher hansa aur use chhoṛ diya.
The mouse said: Let me go, one day I will help you. The lion laughed and let him go.
کچھ دن بعد شیر ایک شکاری کے جال میں پھنس گیا۔
Kuchh din baad sher aik shikaari ke jaal mein phans gaya.
A few days later the lion was caught in a hunter's net.
چوہا آیا، اس نے اپنے تیز دانتوں سے جال کاٹ دیا اور شیر آزاد ہو گیا۔
Chooha aaya, us ne apne tez daanton se jaal kaat diya aur sher aazaad ho gaya.
The mouse came, cut the net with his sharp teeth, and the lion was free.

اسکول سے واپسی پر عمر کو راستے میں ایک بٹوا ملا۔
School se waapsi par Umar ko raaste mein aik batwa mila.
On the way home from school, Umar found a wallet on the road.
بٹوے میں پیسے اور ایک کارڈ تھا جس پر ایک دکان کا پتا لکھا تھا۔
Batwe mein paise aur aik card tha jis par aik dukaan ka pata likha tha.
In the wallet was money and a card with a shop's address on it.
عمر کا دل چاہا کہ وہ پیسوں سے کھلونا خرید لے، مگر اس نے سوچا کہ یہ ٹھیک نہیں۔
Umar ka dil chaaha ke woh paison se khilona khareed le, magar us ne socha ke yeh theek nahin.
Umar wanted to buy a toy with the money, but he thought that would not be right.
وہ اپنے ابو کے ساتھ اس دکان پر گیا اور بٹوا دکان دار کو واپس کر دیا۔
Woh apne abbu ke saath us dukaan par gaya aur batwa dukaandaar ko waapas kar diya.
He went to that shop with his dad and gave the wallet back to the shopkeeper.
دکان دار بہت خوش ہوا اور بولا: بیٹا، تم بہت ایمان دار ہو۔
Dukaandaar bohat khush hua aur bola: Beta, tum bohat imaandaar ho.
The shopkeeper was very happy and said: Son, you are very honest.

رات کو حمزہ نے آسمان پر گول چاند دیکھا۔
Raat ko Hamza ne aasmaan par gol chaand dekha.
At night Hamza saw a round moon in the sky.
اس نے امی سے پوچھا: کیا کوئی چاند پر جا سکتا ہے؟
Us ne ammi se poochha: Kya koi chaand par ja sakta hai?
He asked his mum: Can anyone go to the moon?
امی نے بتایا کہ کچھ لوگ راکٹ میں بیٹھ کر چاند پر جا چکے ہیں۔
Ammi ne bataaya ke kuchh log rocket mein baith kar chaand par ja chuke hain.
Mum told him that some people have gone to the moon in a rocket.
حمزہ نے سوچا کہ وہ بڑا ہو کر خلا باز بنے گا۔
Hamza ne socha ke woh baṛa ho kar khala baaz banega.
Hamza decided that when he grows up he will be an astronaut.
اس رات اس نے خواب میں دیکھا کہ وہ چاند پر کھڑا زمین کو ہاتھ ہلا رہا ہے۔
Us raat us ne khwaab mein dekha ke woh chaand par khaṛa zameen ko haath hila raha hai.
That night he dreamt he was standing on the moon, waving at the earth.
